String Orchestra

String Orchestra

String Orchestra at Simi Valley High School is the course for students interested in continuing or starting their string instrument education. It’s a class focused on education- expanding the students’ abilities and techniques both on their instruments and on their fundamental musicianship skills.

Students in this class will spend significant amounts of time learning scales, developing their ear and aural skills, and perfecting foundational techniques like bowing and posture.

String Orchestra students have the opportunity to perform and be adjudicated in both the SVUSD all district festival, and at SCSBOA festivals during the spring semester of the school year. As part of this process, the students have the opportunity to work with renowned musicians, in recent years that list includes Dr. John Roscigno, director of the CSU Northridge Symphony Orchestra, and Dr. Breanna Thornton, director of the CLU Symphony Orchestra.

Twice a year, string orchestra students are asked to perform in the Symphony Orchestra. Symphony Orchestra is an ensemble that meets exclusively during Flex periods comprised of all string orchestra students, and select students from Concert Band and Wind Ensemble, that plays music at the largest scale we have at Simi Valley High School!
